Garden of Eden
The area is a fantastic combination of thick, lush forests and lakes - add these to some breathtaking beaches & gorgeous rivers, and you'll have the perfect place for a variety outdoor activities. The most popular activities would be hiking and walking with the most scenic trails you can find! The Garden is situated in the middle of it all so take this opportunity to take a break from your holiday to experience a bit of paradise. If walking isn't your thing you can always just soak up the surroundings with some serious R&R, alternatively a good walk is also a very informative one with sign boards identifying and explaining the various types of vegetation and wildlife to be seen! The Garden of Eden is clearly marked from the road, so look out for signs from the main road in Knysna and you can't miss it! They do charge a very affordable fee at the entrance which is used for the basic conservation of the area, upkeep of the facilities and also regulates the amount of visitors to this natural paradise every year. Opening hours do differ according to seasonal factors so an advisable trip to the local tourism office is a must. The Harkerville area has always had a bountiful supply of locally grown produce, vegetables, citrus, flowers, dairy and beef farming, poultry and is now a wine producing area. A visit to the Harkerville Farmers Market which is held every Saturday morning rain or shine is a must to experience flavours of the area. |
